Inktober

And a crowdfunding

It’s October and that means… Inktober! When artists worldwide challenge themselves to make a drawing every day, to certain prompts. This year, I’m participating with my comic character Mijntje, accompanied by her lovely girlfriend Mia. I’m following the prompts, and at the same time I try to get a bit of a narrative in about Mijntje & Mia’s history and life together:

Mijntje is known for her wandering eye. But who knew that Mia has secret dreams of her own?

Mijntje & Mia love spiders and spiders love them.

Mijntje and Mia had different paths that brought them together: Mijntje was born in a very traditional family (although her father turned out to be gay later) and had a boyfriend before falling head over heels for Mia - whereas Mia has two activist moms and has always known she was a lesbian to the core. When they met, their paths merged.

But of course in any relationship there are moments of anger and frustration and hoping you can outrun your partner’s aim. What do Mijntje and Mia fight about? Maybe in this picture, it’s because Mijntje is wearing Mia’s shirt!

Mijntje and Mia always find each other again after a fight, even if it takes a bit of navigating…

I’m also using Inktober to get more acquainted with my iPad, as you can probably see from the different brushes I’m trying out.

And there’s another reason I’m drawing Mijntje for Inktober…
