Yes, I found Love!
Twenty-one boxes of it to be precise, in my mother’s garage:
They contain a few HUNDRED copies of this book:
Love, a Discovery in Comics was published not long before a pandemic, when the world suddenly seemed to focus on other stuff than love, and I sort of forgot about it - which is silly, because Love is really the ONLY thing worth focusing on.
…what am I gonna do with it?
What to do with twenty-one boxes of Love?
Here’s where you come in, dear newsletter reader: can you help me think this through?
I’ve already started slipping copies into Free Libraries throughout the neighborhood. At the rate they’re being picked up now, it will take at least three years before I empty the last box.
I could donate them to organizations that would be willing to pay for the shipping costs. But what organization could afford that? (Bear in mind: I’m based in The Netherlands/Germany)
I could start a Kickstarter where I offer my book for not much more than the price of shipping.
That last idea appeals to me. I’ve been wanting to get into Kickstarter, but it seems quite a leap. This could be just the right, small project to get to know the platform.
But would there be enough interest to try this? Would YOU be interested?
Please pick your answer below (the poll is anonymous) and help me decide if a Kickstarter would be worth it:
What is Love?
Love is a quality hardbound, 120 page, full color graphic novel.
It explores several notions about love, such as: does The One exist? Can you have sex without love? What are the rules for dating? How to fix a broken heart?
It also delves into some historic perspectives, like: the history of marriage; the Kama Sutra; the history of romance novels.
AND it's all tied together by my husband and me going through the Seven Year Itch - which in retrospect was a prelude for the polyamory-thing we're exploring now…
So if you enjoy my comics and would like a bit more backstory about me and my marriage, this is definitely a must-have!
Or if you're looking for a fun, light-hearted gift for your lover, or that friend who's getting married, or your parents who are celebrating their 40th anniversary - this is the perfect book for that!
Listen to Love!
While you’re pondering my questions (I hope you do!), I encourage you to listen to this song below - with the risk of it getting stuck in your head for a few weeks, like it did with me - but there are definitely worse songs to get stuck with!
And here’s another couple of Love-songs that are running through my head:
(Another idea: I could just peddle the book out of the back of my car!)
Or, you could offer them for sale here (maybe using Gumroad for payment) to see what it does? I would LOVE to purchase a copy. Wondering why you're considering selling them for a low price? It's not like they're mouldy or outdated are they?
Is there a reason you want to sell via Kickstarter vs. directly? In my experience, people come on board partially to make a dream happen, because without the full funding, the project will not be realized. (I’ve done two successful Kickstarters.) If the idea is to use the campaign to create buzz and urgency, perhaps think about other ways to do outreach so that you get enough people sharing your message. Either way - I’m interested in your book. Who can resist love? So put me on your list.
