Hahaha I looove this one, Margreet–especially the final panel! We have outdoor cams and my husband loves watching them for the neighborhood wildlife. "Mr. Skunk" and the next-door groundhog family are particularly entertaining.
They are kind of sinister, and more intelligent than I thought. Seven of them hatched just last August and I've been feeding them, hoping to befriend them. They were really cute when they were chicks. Now they're entitled, surly teenagers.
There are lots of wild neighbors in the country - they just tend to be quieter than city neighbors. 😁 We have a security camera near our barn and see mostly wild turkeys and crows, but also have seen white tail deer, porcupines, skunks, an occasional opossum, groundhogs, coyotes, foxes, a bobcat, a moose (only once, though...), neighbor's dogs and cats, hawks and owls, the occasional bear... most of these guys hide out during the day.
Chickens tend to be friendly beasts, especially if you feed them. Our chickens aren't allowed to wander out of the chicken run, because there are too many critters around here that would love to eat them!
There's deer and pheasants around here too! I was a bit surprised (disappointed) that they did not show up on cam. That hare was the only really wild animal to show up. It was a very cold night that night.
I liked your hare photo - we don't have many wild bunnies around here (or maybe they're especially good at hiding). I've only seen one wild rabbit in all the years I've lived here... I was thinking of getting some pheasants, but they might cause problems for the native turkeys (same habitat, same diet), so resisted the temptation. There have been too many ecological disasters caused by people thinking that it would be cool to have such-and-suches around, only to discover that the native flora and fauna are very unhappy with the newcomers... pheasants are awfully neat looking birds, though, I'll just have to be content with pictures and video. 😁

Oooh, nice! There's much more wildlife around here, they obviously don't wander in the yard that much. Deer, pheasants - even the occasional wolf!
I love what you did with that photo of chickens moving towards the camera: very sinister!

Do the chickens lay eggs? You could ship them to the US and make a lot of money! Very fun, all that “wild” activity.
They do! And the neighbors share them generously.
This is such an interesting read!
I almost had a heart attack when I suddenly saw the pony at night too, I thought it was a serpent with legs or something😂
I know, right? So spooky!
Chickens are wonderful creatures. I suggest making friends with them.
Oh, I do! I keep special grains at hand for them and feed them now and then. It's an interesting interaction.
